I Cried at Work - A Novella

Hello everyone! Let me preface this post with this-this blog post is not really a novella. I am just trying to be creative with my titles. This post may not have fun pictures in it (unless I can find some), I just have to tell you something I learned today. So let me begin... I had a one on one with my manager today. Usually, these are pretty good, but I feel this one was a bit of a game changer for me and my boss and our relationship - it only took about four years! We were discussing something I can improve on and then she started to praise me... well give me positive feedback. "I know all the things you do and I don't always tell you, but you are really fantastic and are an asset"... Then enter the waterworks, I am serious. I was so embarrassed and ashamed that I cried in front of my boss (who is the director of the department may I add). But here is where it comes from - I haven't had a TRUE verbal compliment from her in a very long time. I don't n...

Toxic Friendships

Let me start this blog post with a little side conversation. I love self exploration journals, self help blogs/podcasts/books, and I love helping people! SO with that being said - let me help you out for a moment. Here are some self help books/journals that I have found so far  to be extremely helpful! Click here to learn more and purchase! Click here to learn more and purchase! Click here to learn more and purchase! Click here to learn more and to buy! I am always constantly finding new things to read, I actually have two other books on my docket to read on these subjects that I will write about later.  OK... so now the real topic: TOXIC PEOPLE So how does the first part of my post and the main topic correlate? Well simple. I was writing in the "52 Lists for Happiness" book tonight, and one of the questions is: "List the best choices you have made in your life". Mine goes as such: Going to Europe Graduating from Colleg...

Let Me Talk About Podcasts

Let me talk about podcasts... If you have been living under a rock - podcasts are a thing. I am pretty sure that they have been around since the birth of the iPod.  So why am I talking about podcasts? Well I have never really been one for listening to podcasts up until this year. Some of you (my -4 readers) may have your hesitations about them too.  Here were some of mine: "Ugh I don't want to listen to people talking all the time". "Music is life!" "I don't even know what to listen to!" Well as I have gotten older - I find myself listening to "good music" which is the same stuff I listened to in college and way before. I found myself in a time warp. It was either my old school college rap, boy bands, techno, and all that. I like alternative rock, but this new stuff like Taylor Swift is killing me.  So I started listening to books on audio, and when I did not have money to purchase another book on audio or fi...

Who am I?

Lately I have been contemplating the number one question we all have. It happens to everyone and various stages in our lives. WHO AM I?  You know the basics: I am - Adriana, Single, LDS, Master's Student, I like to read and write, I love my family and my friends.  A very generic Twitter "about me" - identify yourself in 160 words or less.  But who are you deep down, what do you like to do?  I am Adriana, and I am Single, LDS, and a Master's Student trying to further my career, date, and also obtain new hobbies like writing and developing new interests. I belong to a book club where I get to read extensively and broaden my genres of books, and I also am attempting to write a book and perhaps publish it on Amazon's publishing page. That is a more in depth about me.  As we go on through our lives we always want to change the mold.  I think about my parents. Here they are in their 60's and deciding that they want to change their f...

Things a California State of Mind Taught Me.

This last week I went on my first vacation in a while. I have taken time off to help out with family things, and have taken a day here or there, but not a FULL week off from work in a LONG time. Well I did this past week, and I went to California with my friends Annah and Kayla. We went to the beach, Disneyland, and bummed around a museum and a cool shopping district. But let me tell you why this trip was so special - it taught me some things I needed to know about myself, about my friendships, and about my mental health! This is my favorite picture I took the entire trip, it explains how I felt the entire length of the trip - HAPPY and relaxed, free to be myself. Let me start off by saying - I am myself pretty much most of the day, but this trip let me do things on my own time with my own ways. 1. I is kind, I is smart, and I is important! I love this quote from  The Help . Self love - it is something that is becoming more accepted each day. I have always struggled w...

My Review and Rant on Beauty and the Beast - Spoiler - It is good!

There will be spoilers in the blog post, please refrain from reading if you don't want to know anything. Today I saw Beauty and the Beast, the live action one with Emma Watson. It was fantastic, whimsical, and purely romantic. It was everything I was waiting for, excited about, and more. Emma's voice wasn't Disney Princess quality; however, SHE CAN SING! That is all that matters. Apparently there were some concerns with this movie that I A) don't care about and B) they are "much ado about nothing". For Example: Le Fou is the first openly gay character by Disney. WHAT!? I am in complete shock... just kidding. WHO CARES! If you have seen the musical and the cartoon version ... it is a little bit obvious isn't it? He is singing a song about a man, and admiring him in a very "I love you so much please turn gay for me" way. He is French, and the French can be a little bit flamboyant and that is what makes them truly fun people (trust...

When your wants turn into needs.

*** Warning: This blog does contain spirituality and talks of my religion (www.mormon.org) and my inner most thoughts. If you cannot "hang" with it, then you can leave now... otherwise - I warned you*** First of all let me start off by saying: I am not ashamed to be LDS (A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)  nor will I ever be!  I believe in Christ, who is my king. I believe in the teachings and the power of The Book of Mormon  and I know that Joseph Smith saw Christ and Heavenly Father and was instructed to lead our generation through the Latter Day.  I believe and know that this is the true gospel of Christ, if you don't, then that is up to you.  Now to the heart of the blog post:  Let state this statement "I am who I am, and for that, I am not ashamed nor embarrassed" - me.  In my 27 (almost 28) years of life I have been going to church, and loving it! I have had my spouts of lacking in faith an...

The Closing of 2016

2016 brought on many good and bad events! Lots of political rages, standing for what you believe in, and the death of many celebrities. But that is just the world's 2016! My 2016 was... well probably my most mundane year. I haven't even updated my personal blog  in a while because this blog has been my favorite for 2016. When 2015 ended I vowed to never feel like I did in that year, and I worked at it. I made new friendships, bought my home, and was even really good with my weight loss for a while. My weightloss rantings can be found  HERE!  I must warn you, I haven't updated it for over a year now, but I vow to work on that blog. This one is easier since it deals with the everyday issues that I personally find entertaining and I try to make them fun, but I doubt I have a lot of followers, that is totally okay. I just like to type! My last 6 months of 2016 were not my best but they were not my worse, I did gain a lot more weight and that is something I never want to d...

Living with Depression - A Seasonal Post

About six months ago I wrote post about living with depression and bore some of my inner most thoughts. Well today it has been about 1.5 years since I was diagnosed with depression, and 2 years since my boob job - they are not related I promised. Why do I mention my boob job - well it helped my self esteem, but there was still a part of me that was not happy. So I went to the doctor and got diagnosed.  Winter is the worst season for me. I am not sure if it is bad for anyone else. But it always has been, no matter the time of the year, the festivities, the people I am surrounded with, I usually just slap a smile on my face and go with the flow.  Here is what I am going to forewarn you about - I am not a hermit. A hermit is someone who never leaves their house for any reason. I am too broke and too young to be a hermit. However, I do love to be a home. I am a homebody.  In the winter the days get shorter and it feels like night time can last for hours. Then when the ...

I went to Chili's 100% alone... thoughts from an introvert

After an eventful evening of going to the T-Mobile store to upgrade my Nexus 6 to an iPhone, finding that all stores near you did not have an iPhone 6S+ nor the newest phone in stock... I finally went with preordering the iPhone 7s+ in Rose Gold with 64 GB of storage, paid off my cell phone I have now, so I could start payments on my new one. Good news is, by Thanksgiving... I should have a new phone, bad news, I am stuck with my glitchy phone until then. But one cannot complain with such a minimal "first world problem". Oh, did I mention, I left my debit card at work, so I had to do this on my credit card.... thank goodness for online payments! My plans kind of fell through after that, no one's fault but the sickness my sweet friend encountered. I got into my car, drove back to work got my debit card and then made the biggest ballsiest (is that a word?) move I think I have done since that time I went to a movie 100% alone. I went to Chili's by myself. One cannot ...

How to ACE That Job Interview - if Not the Actual Job

Take it from someone who works in an industry where we hire when we have openings. I have participated in the interviewing process, been interviewed, call and schedule interviews, and bring up many potential new hires into their interview. My dream is that everyone can be successful and get the job that they want. Here are some tips on how to ACE the job interview: 1- You have to WANT the job. Don't just apply for anything just because the pay may be what you want. 2. You need to KNOW about the job, read up on it! Many jobs provide information in the job description, read the ENTIRE description! Don't just scroll down to the minimum qualifications. 3. You may not know this - but the initial phone call to schedule the interview CAN INDEED be a huge factor to your success of the job interview. I have called numerous individuals who do not sound confident on the phone, no matter how amazing they are at what they do. Most jobs do require you to be on the phone at some p...

Let's Get Real: Living with Depression

By now you have heard countless stories and read numerous articles and blogs about depression, and now you are here. So if I do have any readers, and you want to move along, please do. But I am going to bear my soul to you, get real with you, and say things that you may not want to read, or will not get because you don't have what I have. Depression - it is a feeling of sadness, and a roller coaster of emotions. The perfect example happened to me tonight. I was at my best friend's house playing games with a lot of people, and I was ecstatic, happy, over the moon delighted to be there. I was laughing, making jokes, singing, and being my "old self". The drive home was not as much. I was in my brain, thinking, over analyzing situations and things that had no point of being there. I was upset, on the verge of crying, and wondering what was the point to life. I get home, and I am instantly happy, I am in my castle, my slice of heaven.  No, I am not suffering from bi...

It's Midnight, and I Have to be up at Six....

Hey there, it is me, just sitting here before bed after a late evening adventure with one of my best friends. She called me up needing my comfort after dealing with a rough ex friend situation, and that is never easy. Believe me, I have been through it, and I have actually had to do the ex friending (I know it sounds awful, but I have my personal reasons). It put into perspective a lot of things for me, like for example, how much we throw around the term "best friend". I have my friends, acquaintance's, my besties, and my best friends who are pretty much my soul mates. My friends: everyday people, we hang out occasionally, but infrequently, and we keep on touch occasionally. Acquaintance's: people I work with, people I just met, individuals I am forced to be cordial to even though I would rather stick a spork in my eyeball. Besties: close friends at work, talk to a few times a week, Snapchat, and comment on things on social media. Best friends: I would tell these ...

Why Your Opinion of me Does not Matter to me...

A few weeks ago I received some bad news. A guy did not want to date me because of "he prayed about us and he did not feel it was right". Flash forward to a couple of days ago, I found out that this same guy really did not want to date me because I was "going to be bad with him"... or however the excuse goes. Basically I was too fat for his liking, even though I am pretty sure he is no skinny himself. Now in that moment, I seemed a little upset. Why does God not want me to date you, and why the hell does it matter if I am bigger than your typical girl? You are no Adam Levine yourself! It was devastating. Worst part is, I am going through the hardest part of depression lately, and you have no idea that this is happening to me. Just pour some salt into that wound! After this moment, I went around wondering - why do I feel like I am being judged? I am not stupid, I know I have gained the weight, I KNOW that this is a problem in the dating world. Why does it matter ...

Office Dementors

" Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them... Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself... soulless and evil. You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life. " - Harry Potter Wiki  Today I would like to talk about "Office Dementors". Dementors are a fictional character from the Harry Potter series. If you have not read them or watched the movies - then shame on you. For real. Here is a photo of them: In the office place lately, I have experienced a lot of "Dementors", They can be people, experiences, and even your own thoughts. Honestly though, I would like to relate this post to people. Some people bask in the glory of bei...

It takes courage

I continue to discover myself each day, and I feel like I have to shout it to the world. I am a human being, a woman with ambition, a girl with curves, a college graduate, a career woman, a best friend, sister, and a daughter. I am not perfect, I am not all put together, and I am single. I am a single LDS 26 year old... SO WHAT!?! I have learned something in my time, I am sick of apologies.  I am sick of apologizing for things I cannot do, things that are out of my control. I am tired of apologizing for being hurtful, when my intentions are to speak the truth, or speak my mind. Everyone gets to say what they are thinking, so why can't I?  I apologize for things I didn't even do, no more guilt sponge. Life is hard, you don't always get what you want, we all get hurt or hurt someone in time. You don't have to follow the crowd, and it is ok to see the bigger picture. You can be religious, suspicious, and find life delicious (yes rhyme intended).  I am over being this perso...

Let's Talk About not Talking About Online Dating...

I promised myself that this blog was only going to be dedicated to the sweet nothings I speak about being a single, young, successful lady. But let me just address a giant elephant in the room ... aka my entire past few weeks! I am a single,  LDS , goal driven, fun seeking lady. I have every desire, want, and need as most 25 year old women want. It would be nice to have the marriage, the house, the kids, the Etsy shop (who am I kidding I have no skills), however - I don't... not yet. And this is not because I don't want these things, and I haven't been trying to date and all that jazz, it just isn't happening. I go to the single wards, I go out with my friends, I am putting myself out there. I am not the most flirtatious individual on the block, but as Tove Lo states  "I have my moments" . In other words, I have a lot to offer, and I have things going for me. I have a degree from Southern Utah University, a really cool job that I love, I live on my own, do...

Signs You Might be Single for a While

I have stated on my other blogs, that I am a faithful member of  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , so that is just going to be the forewarning on this blog post. Since we are all about the family, you want to be married one day and have your own family. Being a 25 and single young woman of "marrying age", it can be difficult to get a date every now and again. But on my drive home tonight, I got a chance to contemplate the the working gals (and guy?) problem of being single. Here are what (in my opinion, nothing is peer reviewed) are the reasons that I (or a person like me) may be single for a while. And let me tell you what, there is NOTHING wrong with being single if you are working on bettering yourself and fulfilling your dreams. I know I am still young and there are tons of things for me to do! Let me also just put in a snippet that if you are married, you can still do what you want, even if you have some road blocks. All I Think About is Work - Even if ...

Don't Let Your Thought Deter Your Actions

For this blog post I would like to talk about Self Image. Your self image can make or break you. If you say you don't have an insecurity, I call your bluff. I do, however, believe that you can look past your insecurities. To say being insecure is a bad quality is an overstatement. Everyone wants to see themselves for what they wish they could be. I am not here to preach to you, because believe me - even in my personal life and my work life - I too have insecurities.  For the past couple of weeks I have been taking a class called "Star Achievement" . I have learned a lot about myself in my professional and personal aspect. I am more confident at work but less confident in my personal life. Sometimes I just want my work life to copy on to my personal life. I think I would be a lot more successful as an individual. Today I learned that you can be. You might have to take some of your work tactics into your personal life. One of my things I LOVE to do, is make lists. I l...
